8-unit bridge with broken pin

History
dentist made 8-unit bridge for husband (4 top front teeth are pontics + 2 crowns on left side + 2 crowns on right);
one of the pins loosened and dentist said to come in so he can remove the bridge and recement it--
he had to use a pneumatic extractor to get the bridge out (this was less than 3 months after installation);
to make long story short, one of the pins broke off in my husband's mouth; we were not aware of this--
after repeated bridge falling out over and over, husband went for second opinion--
the second dentist found the cause of the problem through x-rays while the bridge was out of my husband's mouth;
we confronted the first dentist (who should have known this); who is attempting to remove the broken pin--
after almost an hour he could not get the pin loose--he said he is afraid the tooth will break--
my husband is supposed to go back in a couple of weeks for him to try again (he is sending away for some special tools??)

Question
what happens if the dentist can not get the pin out?
how should we proceed?
he paid 8 thousand dollars for the bridge--
should we go to another dentist for treatment?
where does the financial liability lay?
does my husband have to get dental implants?
it is awful for him--he keeps gluing the bridge in every day or so with loctite super glue (gel style)

where should we go?
who can we trust?

sorry this is so long

You should discuss the specifics of the financial arrangement of your situation with the dentist.  Normally there is no guarantee or warranty implied with dental work but of course, your good will and trust is important to his practice and I'm glad that you are giving him the opportunity to correct the problem.  If he's having problems, you may want to ask him to refer you to a specialist or someone else who can handle the problem and correct the situation instead of suing him.

I'm not so sure about the pin exactly.  My interpretation of a pin is a small pin used to hold the "core or buildup" in place.  I think you may be speaking about a post (larger) which is placed down the root canal to help provide retention (something for the bridge to grab onto).  If the post is broken and can't be removed, extraction is probably the most likely scenario at this point.  A broken post may indicate also a broken root which would be a source of infection.

Implants may be an alternative but you would need to discuss that with your dentist or another dentist.

Hi May!

Really upsetting story.. just for you to know, it is not normal. Normally, in such cases, one shall have a guarantee on that dental work... Yes, if it is always falling down, it i awful and also not good, if someone has to do it with a loctite, there are special glues for that.. You possibly have an invoice and - hopefully - a guarantee from him. Would nothing happen and he would not change his the bridge or even not do anything, you still can sue him. My aunt was not satysfied with the dentists in the UK, so she went to Hungary, to the empireclinic and got a really good treatment.. with guarantee!! I am happy to say that she probably won't need that, me i am the next to go in June.. check the site, they also can tell you things without your personal visit there, send them the x-ray of your husband, they will probably have a competent opinion you can rely on.. doesn't cost nothing to ask them.. so, success!
