Bump under tongue / saw oral surgeon

I saw an oral surgeon today who did a VERY thorough check up but said he cannot say for sure what the bump is.  It's in the minor salivary glands and the two glands join at that area.

Since I had a full body PET scan just 3 weeks ago and it was all clear, he isn't concerned about that but did say he'd like to do an x-ray this Thursday from under my chin to see if he can rule out stones.  His thoughts are it could be fibrous tissue, a cyst or a stone.  He milked my salivary glands and they worked very well.  NO swelling in any glands or lymph nodes. No pain, etc.  He pointed out to me that I have a smaller bump in the exact same place, other side of the tongue.  Again, he was VERY thorough.  Took over half an hour poking and prodding.

I questioned him if this could have been caused when I bit a Triscuit cracker wrong and it went under that side of my tongue and poked me quite badly. I had to remove it with my finger!  He said we'd just be guessing.

He did reassure me that he isn't concerned about cancer (I'm a terrible worrier since colon cancer and a met to my liver three years later)   with a clear full body PET scan three weeks ago.  There is also no redness, ulceration or any external signs of the bump.  My blood work less than 2 weeks ago did not indicate any infection.  I had to show him, the dentist and the tech where the bump is.

Any thoughts?

Your OS is exactly dead on.From what you've posted I am pretty sure there is nothing really pathologic especially since the OS did such a thorough exam. Follow his advice and relax.  If worse comes to worse and it's a salivary gland issue he can remove the gland and duct and it won't recur.   I am Dr. Thomas Karmen

Thank you so much Dr. Karnen.  One other question.  Last night I noticed the other side of the frenulum was inflammed  (or a gland running next to it?).  The little ball where it attaches to the tongue is slightly transparent. In the gland thing, I can see three tiny white things under the skin. They feel like sand.   I googled and saw people using Q-tips to PLIERS to remove stones.  Should I consider slight pressure with two Q-tips or just leave these alone?

I'm sorry, but is there a question here?

It appears the OS is doing everything he can to get a DX regarding these bumps and since cancer has been ruled out, I certainly wouldn't spend much time worrying about this. Besides, I'm betting on the Triscuit! I bit into one a few months ago and it caused my gum to bleed! Those are some dangerous crackers!
I say relax as I think the OS would have done a lot more if he was really concerned!
Peace
