how long will this go on?

in march of this year i finally went to a dentist, my teeth are in bad shape, I had an abcess which i was given atibiotics and told to come back in 10 days..the pain went but two days before extraction it came back, I asked for an xray and you could plainly see the infection. they went ahead and removed the tooth. i have had a few extractions and have had a dry socket on several occassions, but nothing compared to the pain i went through in the next five days, I wnet back and was prescribed amoxciclyn again, pain went, came back two weeks later in my ear. went to docters in agony explained to them treament from dentist, was told to go bk to dentist, at that time i did'nt have enough money to get to the denitist 20 miles away so went to a different dr but did'nt say about tooth, they looked in my ear and i had a bad ear infection..more amox... pain came back again went to dentist they said there was'nt anything wrong and said it was probably sore from a traumatic extraction...this pain goes beyond sore!  went bk two days later as i was pretty sure i could feel something sharp in hole, was told it was probably a bone fragment and it would come out naturally?  by this time i'd had enough deep down knew something was'nt right and demanded an xray.  low and behold there was a root left in. and infection.  more medicine and they removed the root... i have had permanant pain in my ear and jaw since then..finally cant take it anymore registered at a private practise and i have an infection,  in the remaining molar that was injured when extracting the first one which they filled..have been prescribed amoxcillan which made no difference and no am taking metradizol as well  started on thursday afternoon but still in loads of pain and the feeling of pressure in my ear is agony and still building and numbness in face getting worse, should it have started getting better by now?

You're welcome!

If you can, I would schedule an appointment with an ENT (ear nose throat) specialist or an oral surgeon.  The reason why I would recommend an oral surgeon is that he may be able to see if there is some complication from the extraction and resolve the issue or may refer you to an ENT if he can't find a complication from a dental procedure.

If after seeing an ENT and the problem is not resolved, I would suggest a TMJ specialist.

Firstly thank you for taking the time to reply,  I started off by going to my family gp, who did'nt want to know and advised going to the dentist.
The tooth is the one next to the end big molar that they removed, sorry i dont know the correct name :(  the numbness radiates from my ear to just under it along my eye and jaw, it feels heavy and i feel a like there is a blockage in my ear, and i have a swelling where the jaw meets the ear and my neck is slightly swollen. any help would be appreciated, i feel like i'm going insane the pain is real and feels more like my ear.

thank you

According to what you said, it sounds like they got the offending tooth as well as the remaining root tip in the area out.  With that done, the area should heal up and the symptoms should gradually improve over time.

Have you considered going to an ENT specialist to see if there may be an actual problem in the ear?  Also, numbness in the face is of concern.  Which tooth was reemoved and where is the numbness?
