Do I need periodontal work prior to full mouth restoration??? I am in pain, holes in my teeth and can't get near those gums

After 3 consults and quotes from 3 dentists I was yet to be told until recently that the periodontist must clean deeply to get rid of all plaque etc before putting crowns in on top of the diseased tooth. This dentist is in the field and says must get cleaned in the gums before doing the restoration. I am in pain and in need of a specialit like periodontist which will help my pockets??? and  please  help!!

I have recently been seriously pursuing my dental care.  The dentist/oral surgeon I have been seeing told me on the first visit that any teeth I would want to save whether its a filling and crown or root canal and crown would need to be done in a clean mouth, i.e. I needed scaling and root planing to start with before anything else was done.   I couldn't save upper teeth due to financial/fear reasons but I only have one cavity in the bottom.  The day the pulled the remaining uppers I had an extensive scaling and root planing done under IV sedation.  I am very happy with the results.  I had a gum line cavity so I knew it would not hold unless the years of plaque and gunk was removed first.  Good luck with your dental work, it is so worth it..
