Painful infection in lower jaw -- what kind of doctor should I see?

I have been to the dentist and he coud see nothing wrong with my tooth (lower left molars) so he sent me to a gum specialist who said my teeth and upper gums in good shape, but there is an infection deep along my jaw line and not involving my tooth. The infection drains when poked by dentist but then just resumes.  I have Penicillin for a few days and the swelling is down, but the pain and dischage still there.  Should I see another type of doctor? An Otolaryngologist (ENT)?
