Fracture of root canal

Fracture of root canal

I am continuing to experience pain 6 months after phase one  root canal treatment on a lower molar. I have had the whole treament repeated as well as fine tuning of my bite etc My endodontist says he can find nothing wrong and has suggested phanotm pain or neuralgia which may or may not settle in time. I have recently read on a blog about fracture of the actual root canal which is apparently not visible on xray. Is this correct and what is your opinion on the above. I remain in limbo with a temporary filling and am trying to avoid extraction. Thanks

Same thing happened with my lower back molar.  I waited a whole year for my molar root canal to "settle down", but it didn't.  It hurt when I would bite down on anything.  Turned out that my tooth was fractured and I had to have it extracted.
Xrays didn't show the fracture either.

It still may settle down, though.  Does the pain keep you awake?  Or does it bother you with heat, cold or pressure?  If it keeps you awake, the tooth may very well be fractured.  Nerve pain (neuralgia) normally does not bother you at night (they aren't sure why).

Try taking some anti inflammatories (nerve pain is inflammation of the nerve) like ibuprofen, and use ice on the area.  If you find relief from that, it can be the nerve pain.

Yours sounds alot like mine was, though.  And, I lost mine.  Had I know about implants at the time I probably would have had it replaced with one.

Hope this helps and that you are painfree soon.
Best to you,
Gellia
