Gold crown reusable??

Gold crown reusable??

Having had a perfectly working gold crown with no root canal for over 15 years,it just fell out the other day..No pain,no damage, and later xzrayed no decay..But I was told by a new dentist the old crown is not regluable and not only that but he said the original tooth had been cut to low so root canal is best to build up for new crown..Total bill $2400??
Is this right? To recomend a root canal with no pain or decay? Anyways after I said no ,he sealed around it with some kind of lighted handheld gun and said good luck ..just $24 for the xrays..what?? I have no idea what to do now or even if i do nothing the tooth Will needa root canal as it looks unprotected but maybe a silver looking cap is still on it..Any ideas?? thanx

crowns are not usually reusable and 15 years is more than its average life expectancy but no one here can tell you for sure if you would need a root canal and build up without seeing the tooth in question. since you are obviously concerned about the diagnosis a second opinion would be a good idea.
