Thank you for your response. My dentist is actually a prosthodontist, which I mentioned in my Post.
I appreciated your help.
The perio called it a 'bone graft' and it was described as that on the insurance breakdown of the bill. But I Googled bone grafts yesterday and it sounds to me like it was a gum graft of my connective tissue.......
My perio is so determined to do an implant, but my other dentist is fine with the pontic on the crown. Implants don't always take and I just don't want any more surgery!
Healing time depends on a whole range of things: size of the graft, your overall health, was membrane placed on the palate or not, heck even diet.
The healing is usually assessed within week/2 weeks postop.
Also, I am a bit confused as to bone graft from palate. I believe bone grafts are usually taken from chin area or pelvic area. Soft tissue due to recession is taken from palate.
I would consult oral surgeon specialist, as they are mostly in charge of doing implants. It is true most of the dentist may do all of the procedures, but to be totally honest they may be lacking in experience and knowledge the specialist may have.
Implants seem to be a new fad in dentistry, wherever implant will "take" or not depends largely on your overall health, also smoking is a major factor. I would say implant is the closest we are right now to something resembling normal tooth. Bridges are a good idea too, but during that procedure two healthy tooth are shaved down so they can be used as anchors for the missing tooth.
Again consult oral surgeon, in the end it is your decision. :)
