Jaw pain after crown

Jaw pain after crown

I went to my dentist a week ago today to have a large old silver filling replace with a crown on lower tooth #19. My dentist makes the crown right in his office no temp. required. I started have a aching in that tooth the next day and started getting worse as the days went on. The pain in the tooth seems to be leveling off a bit but still requiring 2 advil about 3 times a day. On top of the ache from that tooth my jaw has been hurting so much going into my ear that I went to physical therapy yesterday. I still cannot chew on my new crown without pain, and I have been back to my dentist yesterday to have my bite adjusted. He says all looks well and that the pain is from my jaw.. to try physical therapy. No xrays were taken yesterday to rule out infection. How long is the normal for pain when getting a crown and when should I become concerned that something else may be wrong?

The pain source is probably occlusal interference of new crown. If your dentist does'nt adjust the bite, you may need to see a prosthodontist to solve the problem.
