Recurring front tooth pain & swelling...any ideas?

A couple of years ago I had fillings done on my two front teeth. I have had no injuries to my mouth or face. Since then, I have had maybe 3 or 4 occurrences of the following specific set of symptoms:

I wake up one day with one or both front teeth feeling a bit tender & slightly hurting. It's mild. The following morning, the pain is gone, but my upper lip is swollen, and the swelling lasts for a few days then eventually subsides.

It doesn't seem like an abscess since everything I'm reading suggests that would be more painful and urgent but this has been recurring for a few years. I just started a new job so I won't have insurance for a few months and I can't take any time off.

Any ideas or clarifying questions would be greatly appreciated.
