Oral Thrush for a month

So a month ago I noticed my younger was completely coated in something white, so I went to my schools health office and they said it was an oral thrush infection. They gave my a swish anti fungal medicine which I have now run out of. There is still an overgrowth of yeast on my tongue though. I've never experienced this before last month. My dentist said because I don't feel any burning sensation and the coating isn't thick like cottage cheese, then it's nothing to worry about. Is there anything I could do? I've been scraping my tongue almost everyday, but the days I don't do it my tongue is completely coated and it gets thicker if I don't clean it for a few days. I don't know what to do. Is there a reason why it hasn't gone away yet? (I've also tested negative for HIV) I'm 18/F.

Sorry to hear your discomfort,

I've had patients with this condition, and it may develop more in some than others, We recommend to purchase a tongue scraper, and to use an antiseptic mouth rinse, along with an antibacterial prescription specially for bacterial infections, Some one mentioned Fluconazole,

Brush, Floss, Antiseptic mouth rinse, and a prescription for bacterial infections.

And of course, the good ole luke warm salt water rinse, never fails at keeping bacteria and the PH levels of our mouth within normal levels.

Are you one any steroid medications like asthma inhalers?  Steroids are notorious for causing thrush and I know, it *****!

There is a pill that you can take instead of the Nystatin.  It is called Fluconazole and you can get it with a prescription and it lasts a whole lot longer if this is something that you are going to continue to have.  Rinse your mouth regularly and I hope that this will help.
