Pain from Novicane???

I just had two BIG fillings filled today, one of them being on my top right molar that may need a root canal per the dentist. He only filled it, hoping that it won't have to go that far. We discovered that I need A LOT of novicane to numb me. I had my fillings at 11:00, and started having pain about 1, so I took some ibuprofen, around 8:00 before bed, I hurt more than earlier and took some more ibuprofen. It's looking like every 6-8 hours I'll be popping ibuprofen, I'm assuming its from all the novicane they had to use an the tooth being messed with. I figured I'd call the dentist tomorrow afternoon if it doesn't settle down.

My dentist had said the nerve was exposed, and was hoping the filling will be enough, but is worried it will have to be a root canal. Ugh, that's what I get after not seeing a dentist for 10 years!

It is not uncommon to have pain after dental treatment. Teeth are like us they can hurt from the trauma of the drilling especially if the decay was deep. I am sure the dentist used a base to help with the sensitivity. I would give it a week if possible the Dentist would have noticed if the nerve of the tooth was exposed.I hope I have eased your mind.
