It could be a pulpitis in the tooth, meaning the nerve inside the tooth is inflamed. Is there cold or not sensitivity as well? If the pain doesn't improve gradually, I think a root canal may be needed.
Forgot to mention the pain doesn'tfeel like it is in the tooth. I can touch it and the dentist knocked on it without it being painful. Its more like a throbbing aching sensation that travels in tooth into my gum and the sometimes causes a bad headache
The pain and sensitivity persists after the metal removal as replacement usually requires a good deal of space to 'set' properly, a lot of the tooth is drilled out. However, the pain can also be because of some microscopic air pockets that remain there during extraction and filling. Check with your dentist.
