Perforated tooth root is leaking

I had a root canal done 7 years ago and while trying to access a curved third root, the endodontist perforated the root.  He filled it with MTA and all has been well until recently.  Now it's been abscessing repeatedly.  I've taken antibiotics twice but the infection comes back.  A dark spot between the roots shows up on the xray, near the site of the perforation.  My present endodontist says he suspects the perforation is leaking and is pessimistic about his chances of getting to it to repair it.  He advised me to get it extracted.
Should I seek a second opinion from another endodontist? I respect my endodontist's analysis, but I want to do everything possible to avoid an extraction.  
Is retreating a perforation ever successful?  There is a lot of infection in the tooth area, it's swollen and there are two fistulas on my gum.  I'm on my third round of Clindamycin.

When in doubt it is always a good idea to get a 2nd opinion.  If the 2nd Endodontist says the tooth needs to be extracted then you can be pretty sure this is the correct treatment.
