Let's face it: People who land on this page are likely to not only have a tooth related infection but also concern that it may be spreading.  Moreover and more importantly, they are likely not to have insurance or anyway to pay for proper diagnosis and treatment. Heck, that's why I'm here: Trying to figure out symptoms, possible dangers and possible self-imposed courses of action.

As others here have noted, our medical system, government and dare I say whole world is broken.  This page attests to that and to the sad reality that those listed just don't care.

It's my belief that the comparison of people to sheep may be more accurate than the term "sheeple" might at first suggest. We are shered through taxes, licenses, permits, fines, etc. throughout our lives and at our deaths the wolves rush in to further claim any assets that may remain. We are corralled into a system designed to bleed us dry at every turn.

For instance, me being in a similar predicament as those expressed on this page, just phoned a pharmacy to see if there was such a thing as an over-the-counter anti-biotic - there is not. Thus forcing the doctor/hospital visit which I can neither afford nor wait for.  Medical prices prop up insurance companies, insurance companies prop up employment, employment props up government, and all of it props up corruption - and round-and-round we go.

My predicament? Unemployed 15 years due to medical issues which SSD said both wasn't "severe" enough and that they didn't think me credible - both hogwash, but it keeps MY money in their pockets. I guess I must be taking it -- for 15 years - without a penny from anyone, anywhere.

Assessed tooth pulled by a charity about 2 weeks ago - yes I finally found one after my tooth got destroyed and infected - but no antibiotics prescribed. Figured out late Saturday night, that an infection may be spreading to my slightly swollen eye_BALL, with now blurred vision, pressure in my sinuses, pressure in my head, etc. All "mild" enough to make me doubt just enough to not go to an emergency room that I cannot afford and today being Sunday cannot contact anyone to "try" to get an antibiotic- not sure who to call anyhow, I have no doctor and the charity takes weeks to return calls, etc.

So, that's how I found this page. *sigh*

Hope you all are doing better but, yes, our world is severely broken.

I came here the same way as you. My face is a little puffy from an old broken tooth's infection flaring up. Fortunately I think the awesome, burning power of chewing a peeled garlic clove is saving me from going to the ER for antibiotics this time. I read that garlic's a natural antibiotic, but this is actually working pretty fast for me. I had also brushed really well along teeth and gums first, then chewed the garlic and swished it around the infected tooth area. It burned for a while after I spit it out, then started to feel cool and now I taste the drainage.. which means of course, my infection's connected to sinus. But at least it's working this time. I hope I can get a dentist soon. Well, hope this helps.
Ugh, it made me sign in and then all my punctuation transformed into code. I hope it's still legible.

Hi,
I really have to agree with your doctors.  Crying and anxiety is the problem.  Your crying will stuff up your sinuses and make you dizzy.  It can give you pressure in your head.  It can give you toothaches and tense muscles.  All from crying.

Think about it.  Do you really think these drs are keeping something from you?  If so, why would they do that?

You're anxiety is not allowing you to trust in their judgement.  Why would you pay them then?  You're paying them, but neither listening nor believing them.  Getting this anxiety under control, and understanding that these drs know about these things far better than you will go a long way into controlling the anxiety that is giving you symptoms and problems you need not have at all.

Good luck with this.  I hope you can succeed.
My best to you,
Gellia

Oil pulling can help long term with overall dental health and cavities. I do it 2x a day and it really helps.  It's not going to help with an ongoing infection or if you are looking for a short-term result.  If you don't have the funds for better dental care, please try oil pulling in the am for 20 minutes before breakfast, and at bedtime for 20min.

Ok so I just got home from the we. I have impacted wisdom teeth. I'm pending medcaid. But when I had Medicaid the dentist told me not to worry about getting my wisdoms removed yet. Now I don't have Medicaid and my right power jaw is severely impacted and I been roughing through the pain. My neck has been swollen for days. I can stand cold air. A fan. A.c.breathing anything cold. Today at work while stocking the drink cooler my jaw start throbbing very rapidly. I can't taste much anyways due to so much pain. I went to put some oral gel on my tooth and to my surprise my mouth is covered in blood. I haven't been able to eat or sleep much in weeks because I can't stand for my teeth to touch each other. Turns out where the inpaction broke my second molar there is an abcese that busted. I got to the er right after work.bleeding has stopped gums are red a swollen and pus draining from the gum line. My temp was 98.7 at the hospital. I had to fight for them to give me a Tylenol 3 and antibiotic before I left because it was too late to go to the pharmacy!!!! And I was not driving myself. After receiving Tylenol and taking over the counter naproxen the doctor recommend  (both fever reducers) I get home pus is draining rapidly and my fever has sky rocket. I have been taking penicillin for 3 days and that's the anti biotic they have me tonight and for my prescription. But even though I can barely swallow my own spit. I have a fever. Draining of pus and everything else that the paper says to seek medical attention for. There would be no point in me going back to the er. Because before I left the pain had gotten much worse and they never did a blood test or anything to be sure of what kind of infection and what state my body was in

There is a two way connection between mouth and body. So it is important to get proper check up so the possible treatment can be started on time. You can contact Dr. William for dental treatment. He is the one of the best dentist in Wichita Falls.

I have to say that if an infection is in a bone, possibly spreading to your brain or throat then it is a medical emergency. Go to the ER anyway!!

I am very lucky to live in the UK where we have free healthcare although its very difficult to find a NHS dentist and we still have to pay something towards our dental work. A checkup is around 30.00 and altogether the bill should not come to more than 100.00. However, that can still be a lot to someone who doesn't have it.

I have just had a minor emergency of my own. I am someone who does not believe in antibiotics except for emergencies. There are plenty of natural antibiotics and things you can do to heal a tooth infection. I have healed several of mine without an antibiotic so when my niggly toothache turned into a major sore pain in the *** a few days ago, I got out the oregano, cloves etc etc. However, what I didn't realise is that a wisdom tooth infection can act very differently . . .

After three days of self treatment I felt good enough to have a normal working day (I am self employed and as long as the work is done by the end of the week it does not matter when I do it). So I worked most the day, cleaned and went shopping. When I got back from shopping I didn't feel too good and went to bed. I had noticed the swelling had moved, the actual tooth was nowhere near as sore but I felt unwell. I googled the swelling moving in case it was a sign of something more serious but got no hits and was too tired to keep looking so went to bed. The next day (yesterday morning) I woke up in agony, my throat hurt badly, my ear and my glands were really swollen. I was determined to self treat so I carried on with all the usual medicines ect. However, by around ten pm I didn't know what to do with myself for pain. I could not swallow even my own saliva ( I had to keep spitting in a cup) and I was starting not to be able to breathe properly due to my throat having swollen up. I am currently staying at a friends (I am officially homeless. I had to be out of my old place way before my new house was ready. Life as been a nightmare recently). I raided her medicine cabinet and THANK GOD I found some antibiotics.  I googled the dosage and took just under enough for my weight. However these antibiotics were evil. I started to sweat profusely, feel sick and before I knew it, I was projectile vomiting. Since I hadn't eaten a thing in four days (even on the day I felt better I had no appetite) I threw up to my bile. I felt like death. However, within half an hour I started to feel better and noticed my pain had gone down to a reasonable level - I even felt hungry!! I could not believe it!!

I am sat here with a pancake with a slice of cheese, mostly uneaten because I still cant open my mouth wide enough to get it in or chew and it is still very painful to swallow. I want it but my body still isn't well enough to process it . . However, there is no doubt that those antibiotics saved my *** (this coming from someone who thinks antibiotics should be banned save for emergencies because they are killing us).

I have lots of advice for anyone suffering with a tooth infection:

Many times you CAN successfully treat ANY infection at home. What did we do before antibiotics??! However, there is the odd time when antibiotics are needed, especially if you are at all immune compromised. I am severely anemic at the minute and I sure that has contributed to me not being able to successfully treat this myself plus the fact that this was a wisdom tooth abscess and what I have just described is a higher risk for them - infection spreading to the throat that is.

My advice to anyone who intends to self treat - google your infection and know the warning signs of a medical emergency. Use common sense. If you are not mostly mended within five days or the pain is unbearable then seek help or take antibiotics.

You can buy antibiotics off the internet. I suggest that everyone should do this and keep a packet or two for such occasions. However, there are plenty of ways to treat an infection without antibiotics and a quick google search will tell you everything. I have treated three or four in the past myself (non wisdom teeth) with no complications.

Such things like garlic, oregano, baking soda (bicarb in UK), acv, cayenne pepper, liquorice, cloves, pau d arco, sage, onions, potatoes, salt water, alcohol, peroxide (food grade), tea bag poultice, clay etc etc. The list is endless ad there are far more things that I have mentioned here that can help.

My email is ***@****. I don't mind having it out there. If anyone needs advice then they can email me but I would advise them to do a thorough google check first since it will probably be quicker and there should not be any delay in treating an infection. NEVER leave an infection. ALWAYS do something even if it is natural. This will mean you will get better faster and are more likely to save your tooth (if this is here the infection is of course since I am aiming this advice at all infections). By the way, natural remedies are slower than antibiotics so please bear this in mind. Also, using several remedies at the same time will get you better results than just taking one.

Oh and one last tip - garlic is a very good antibiotic but it needs to raw. You also need to take around 6 cloves per day so a bit of garlic bread is not going to cut it people!!

Warning - many antibiotics break down in a way that produces a toxic byproduct!  It's possible that happened to you.  That's why you shouldn't take expired antibiotics.  A good rule of thumb if they aren't dated is one year from acquisition.  This can be deadly, so know what you are taking.
I KNOW THIS IS AN OLD POST.. BUT... DO NOT... UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.. GIVE ANYONE MEDICAL ADVICE IF YOU ARE NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL OR A DOCTOR! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND NO UNDERSTANDING OF INFECTION OR ANTIBIOTICS AND HOW THEY WORK, OR HOW THEY DO NOT WORK, FOR CERTAIN THINGS. WHAT YOU HAVE SAID HERE IS SNAKE OIL AND COINCIDENTAL. YOU ARE GIVING ADVICE THAT MAY CAUSE DEATH! DEATH!  DO YOU UNDERSTAND? YOU CAN BE LIABLE FOR THAT DEATH, SUCH AS NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, GIVE PEOPLE MEDICAL ADVICE FOR THINGS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND! A DOCTOR TRAINS 16 YEARS AND MORE TO HAVE ENOUGH KNOWLEDGE TO TREAT PEOPLE.  IT IS QUITE RIDICULOUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE FOR YOU TO THINK THAT YOU... KNOW BETTER THAN A DOCTOR.  YOU DO NOT! YOU...  AND EVERYONE ELSE ON HERE SHOULD BE SUPPORTIVE, AS IN THE LENGTHY ANXIETY CASE ABOVE, THAT WAS BEAUTIFULLY SUPPORTIVE. BUT THIS... THIS IS SO IRRESPONSIBLE AND DANGEROUS. I AM BLOWN AWAY! DO NOT GIVE UNSUBSTANTIATED ADVICE, BUT HELP FIND A SOURCE OF DENTAL CARE INSTEAD.  FYI..ALL DENTAL SCHOOLS OFFER FREE OR INCREDIBLY DISCOUNTED RATES, THE STATE HEALTH DEPT CAN SOMETIMES GUIDE YOU TO INCOME BASED HEALTH AND DENTAL CARE.  OR... ONE CAN BUY A DISCOUNTED RATE DENTAL PLAN... OR CHURCHES, CHARITIES, ETC. YOU CAN ALSO CALL YOUR LOCAL HOSPITAL OPERATOR AND ASK TO SPEAK TO THEIR SOCIAL WORKER.  THEY CAN DIRECT ONE TO CHARITIES THAT CAN HELP. BUT PROMISE ME!! LEAVE THE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT TO THE MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS BEFORE YOU DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY KILL SOME ONE. PERIOD! JUST STOP! GOOGLE IS NOT A MEDICAL TREATMENT DICTIONARY!! THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLICATED INTERACTIONS, OTHER RXs, COMORBIDITIES AND THINGS ONE MUST CONSIDER WITH MED ADVICE. AND FYI... ONLY CERTAIN ANTIBIOTICS KILL OR STOP CERTAIN THINGS! YOU CANNOT JUST TAKE ANY ONE AND EXPECT IT TO WORK! YOU MUST KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DEALING WITH AND THEN... CHOOSE... THE RX. I SOUND HARSH, YES! BUT THIS IS HOW IMPORTANT THIS MATTER IS! THIS “INTERNET UNIVERSITY”  HAS GOTTEN SO OUT OF HAND! PLEASE... DO NOT EVER DO THIS AGAIN! GARLIC, CLOVES, ETC., ETC., ETC., CANNOT KILL BACTERIA AND ELIMINATE ABSCESSES... EVER! THE PERSON WILL EVENTUALLY JUST GET SEPSIS AND DIE! YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT! RIGHT? OK THEN... NO MORE OF THIS ADVICE TO STRANGERS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, FOR MEDICAL PROBLEMS YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.

I am anxious too. Had an abscessed molar, took Amoxicillin for a week prior to extraction, and bone graft. Then was given Azithromycin for 5 days following that. My cheek, and gum were very painful, like an opened wound. I blamed the dental instruments to hold the corner of my mouth open. Started taking 2 mg Vicodin, alternating with Alieve caplet...just to sleep, and for ache during the day just Alieve.
Went to the dentist today, to get stitches out, and I still had infection, so have to wait for 5 days while starting yet another antibiotic called Clindamycin. (4 a day, x 7 days.
I have had weird sensation in right temple for 3 days.
(I am also a Type 2 diabetic, so have thoughts about things not healing right. Ugh.
Hope you are doing well by now. It is no fun. Sorry you are anxious. <3

I hope your anxiety has improved by now. Maybe my experience will help you. Three years ago I was treated for a tooth infection. It was quite painful. I had to wait almost two weeks for treatment! So I was given a course of amoxicillin. A
Two days into that prescription, I began having SEVERE anxiety! I had trouble with generalized anxiety o disorder in my teens and early 20s, but I got over them by around my 30s, basically by just surviving them and living life. I too have a MORBID fear of dental work. Anyway, fast forward to 3 years ago, as I said I was having terrible anxiety so bad that I could not control it. I literally had to take a leave of absence from work and all I could do was spend most of my time in my bedroom watching TV reruns of old TV shows I found comforting and beading. Oh, and drinking wine. I tried Xanax a couple of times but it made me feel...weird, so I really didn't get into it. But here's the thing; I happened to be reading the side effects of amoxicillin and believe it or not, anxiety is one of them! So how do you like that, we already have anxiety over our condition and then the treatment for it can make the anxiety worse! Well, I want to reassure you that eventually my anxiety did pass and I returned to my old, normal self. I am convinced the amox was what pushed me over the edge and will never take it again, but I also think the infection itself contributed to it. The body is a closed system, all parts work together and it's a delicate balance. It doesn't take much to create subtle changes, that can lead to sudden huge problems if ignoref, as we often do becuz "it's not that bad," or not that noticeable. Please rest assured, you will get better soon. I was able to go back to work after a month post dental treatment, my anxiety had reduced significantly although it was still present and when I had an episode it wasn't totally incapacitating. But it took ALMOST A FULL YEAR for it to completely resolve! So these things take time. Two things may help reassure you further: You can have residual infection in the bony structures surrounding the site of extraction. If you continue to have any symptoms of pain in those areas, get to a dentist immediately for x-rays to check for that. They can treat you with different antibiotics that are better for deeper infection. It's likely NOT in your brain, truly, or you would be much sicker. Google symptoms of osteomyelitis and brain abscess, you will see. Secondly, remember it will take time. Took me a year to return to normal! Thirdly, try changing your diet! It is AMAZING how much it helps! Please read "Heal Tooth Decay Naturally" by Ramy Nagel. He also has a website, www.****.com. Truth is, you CAN heal tooth decay with the methods he advocates, but even he cautions that infections can be serious and deadly and to see a dentist if you aren't having success. Infection does need to be treated promptly and not messed around with, but you have done that by getting treatment so you should begin seeing improvement every day. As far as your anxiety that may take longer to clear up, but for me it really helps just knowing someone else experienced it and got better. Give yourself time, breathe, think about what I've said here--it WILL get better!--read books (really helps distract you and "take you away" from it), or watch shows that calm you, and change your diet and you will get better. Trust the process, and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Hi,
Everything sounds normal!  Congratulations for finally getting them out and working through your fear.  You will heal now.  If there had been any infection the assistant would have seen it.  That nothing was mentioned means there is none.  You will have headaches for awhile.  Your crying stuffed up your sinus and they will now have to recover also.  The roots of all teeth can appear different.  Any infection is now gone because any infected teeth are gone.  Don't worry about food getting trapped.  Everyone worries about that and I have yet to hear of it happening after extraction.  You are just advised to use good common sense when eating for a few days to allow it to fill in some.  Any pain in the immediate dental area is from surgical trauma.

Relax now.  This is all normal healing.  Give yourself a break and mostly let your sinus recover from a prolonged crying jag.

Good luck.  You're doing fine.
Best to you,
Gellia
