I've had this swelling on the left side of my palate or roof of my mouth for three days. I didn't eat anything too spicy or too sweet by the time I had this swelling. It didn't hurt the first day but the feeling of the bump was obvious if I roll my tongue over it or touch it with my finger. The next day I felt small indents in the bump, like I poked it several times and the hole is still there, but I haven't poked at it at all (at least nothing sharp). It feels like it got looser or softer too. Every time I suck in because I am drinking something savoury, like juice, it hurts. I suck in when I'm not drinking or eating anything and I feel the bump with my tongue and it seems like the palate becomes more loose and it still hurts. It shrinks if I don't suck in but the feeling is still there. Now it seems the "holes" or indents have gotten larger like it's been cut. Now I'm worried of eating or drinking anything, especially hard food like vegetables or bread. I've tried washing with salt water 2-3 times a day but nothing has really changed.
It's possible that you have an infection at the root tip of one of your teeth.
It can cause a swelling on the surface of the roof of the mouth.
It may have spontaneously started to drain and that's the hole you feel but you need to get to a dentist and have this checked. Root tip infections will rarely go away on their own without medical intervention and can only start dissolving the bone holding in the tooth if you wait.
Please make an appt with your dentist and have the area properly checked.
My very best to you,
Gellia
