Tongue sores - herpes?

Tongue sores - herpes?

I have developed these red sores at the tip of my tongue 17 days after I performed oral sex on a male. However, they disappeared after three days. A month later, they returned in the same location and disappeared after 2.5 days...but only after a week after this "outbreak" the sores came back in the same spots but then my gums and tongue became swollen to where it hurt to eat or drink anything. I did not see anything on the gums or roof of the mouth that looked anything like herpes, except the sores on the tip of my tongue. Later after this reaction went away, the sores came back on and off within the following weeks but began to show up on the sides of the tongue...never on the top or roof of the mouth or gums.

Can this still be herpes? I have been tested 9 weeks post exposure and both HSV 1 and HSV 2 were negative, though I am not sure if I was tested too soon.
