amalgam fillings

I have been feeling unwell and am going to get my amalgam fillings replaced(8)  and I have a crown at the front top tooth that has a big shiny black/ silver  back on it, they said it was gold, but the colour isn't gold clolour, what is the best thing to do ? get them refilled ,or out and a bridge put in ? also should I go on some sort of detox before the fillings are removed ?

Perhaps reading up on amalgam fillings would shed some light on this subject. Some countries will not put amalgam fillings in women who are pregnant and or small children. Those with any kind of renal problem should not have amalgam  fillings....And when they are taken out of our mouth they are considered toxic material....Just something to think about...My brother who has one kidney used to get large sores on his legs and no doctor could explaing it. He had all of his amalgam fillings replaced and has never had another open sore...

If your mouth gets very dry at night, you should get checked for diabetes.

some people swear amalgam fillings are the worst thing ever but i have a mouth full of them with no ill effects. i think there are some people out there who are sensitive to them and if i had young children i might opt for another option but for me i would still get the cheap amalgam. you get more mercury from your yearly flu shot than with fillings.

thankyou for your replies, you're right  the amalgams may not be the problem, i have a dry mouth at night and its not from sleeping with mouth open, I am going to the Dr tomorrow to get thyroid and adrenals checked ,also could be menapausal , I have been sort of detoxing for 5 days and feel a bit better, I have aches and pains, mainly shoulder/neck and knee, fuzzy headed(brain fog)heart palpitations and it feels irregular sometimes, have had 3 dizzy spells this yr,from lying down to getting up , Dr said vertigo, tired, no motivation, but after cutting out grains (except rice) and dairy,I must say I have picked up, you read where mercury and amalgam fillings do all sorts of terrible things to you ,I have 1 old mercury filling and 8 amalgam, you think amalgam is not so bad ?

mammo is correct. you need to make sure the fillings are what are causing your problems. there are many things that can make you feel unwell with filling at the bottom of the list since its very rare. also you will be exposing yourself to far more mercury durning the removal process. i would contact a medical doctor to check your symptoms before heading to the dentist. btw you didnt list the ways you feel unwell so we couldnt try to think of other possible causes for you problem.

Has it been proven that your fillings are causing your ill health?  I know  that the fillings contain a small amount of mercury in them, but not enough to do any harm.  But it does give the dentists a way to make a lot of money.  I wouldn't jump to any conclusions here and spend all that money, and go thru all that only to find out it's not the cause of you feeling bad.  Have you had a thorough work up by your doctor to see if it is something else?  I have a mouth full of these fillings, and crowns as everyone I know does, and we've had no problems.  Please make sure you're doing the right thing here.  I know we're all different, but I truly don't feel this is your problem.
