cyst above my back upper tooth

I was refered to hospital from my dentist, and have what appears a benine cyst above my bad tooth which showed  spread behind my nasal area, it requires operation, I am 58 years of age and never been in hospital before, and keep hearing bad reports of this surgery, and some cysts can return after removal?
I plan to talk to the hospital consultant to understand in more detail my condition, I am in no pain at the moment,
any help will be greatfully recieved. thanks..
