root canal and extraction

I had a root canal and an extraction on lower left side this past Monday. Very little pain and all good till Wed. Woke up in alot of pain thought maybe it was from grinding my teeth while sleeping. Got better through out the day and now it being Sat I am in quite abit of pain. The whole bottom part of my left jaw hurts upto my ear and feels hot to me ( not to the touch) kind of a burning stbbing pain. Was thinking either dry socket or infection? Any ideas? Hate to call dentist on a Sat night but may have to. Thanks Heather

Thnk Peter-my dentist actually called me back at 10:30 last night! I love him!!!! He is pretty sure I have dry socket and gave me antibiotics and 800 ibu. Not going to make it to work today but feel somewhat better. Have to see him first thing Monday am to get it packed.Fun lol. Thanks Heather

Annoying isn't it. Sudden pains for no reason. I have had 2 root canals (redone twice because of on sets of pain). Maybe better to just have them out?!.

What I was told is that if you tap the tooth and it hurts (sharp pain) then it likely to be some root they missed or an infection. If the tooth aches only and no pain when taping the tooth then it could be a gum related issue.

How about hot and cold liquids?!
