sore tooth that spreads to gums

Hi, part of one of my molars broke off a while back, and the remains of it is black in centre but still have half of it, is sore when i drink cold water or at night when it gets cold it gets painful,  take aspro for it at the moment but dont know  how long that will work for. Just wondering does it sound like it needs to be removed or could it be saved, I know i should go to the dentist but in ireland on medical card they only do extractions if your in pain and no other work. What should I do?

Thanks for that, decided Im going to go to dentist on Monday and see what he says, best option would be to have it taken out at this stage Id say and hopefully after that no more pain:)

Sounds like, if there is enough tooth to cap that you should have root canal and then cap.  Might warrant trip to Mexico for vacation and dental work.  Find a referral for reliable dentist.  Sounds like it would cost the same as just a root canal and cap in your country.  Might as well make a vacaation out of it.
