I love that no one can give an actual answer to this question. No one has cited any medical evidence, just stated their opinion in the matter. I am 17 and rarely brush my teeth. I have better teeth than anyone else in my family and do not have bad breath in the mornings. I honestly am very interested in learning whether brushing your teeth is necessarily a healthy thing and whether not brushing your teeth can be okay.

NO you must always brush your  teeth. The first day of not brushing your teeth a little bit of bacteria covers your teeth... After a week your teeth are covered with layers of bacteria... After a year your probably out of luck, the bacteria turns to plaq which can't be brushed away, you could get gum disease, you will most likely have cavities. BRUSH YOUR TEETH. I brush my teeth everyday and I have no cavities and my teeth feel amazing. I hope this helps.

Brushing your teeth and having dental work is another scam the American elites make us believe is nesicary.  America is capitalistic, it runs on your continuous purchase of products, dentist make their money on your teeth having problems, so they recommend brushing all the time, this actually destroys not only the bad bacteria, but the good as well, the bad grows back faster and the good takes a long time to grow and overcome the bad.  There is stories of people who have never brushed and actually have the healthiest teeth, and people who brush everyday and have horrible teeth.  If you have braces or retainers it is nessicary, but that is because u are altering your teeth already.  Did you know the owner of Colgate has now came out and admits to being satanic.  Animals do not brush their teeth and get by fine.  Our diet does have something to do with it, but cheese is the best thing for teeth, it contains probiotics.  Just have faith in nature, or whatever u believe in.  Ur gums are probally bad because of the brushing of ur teeth.  Either brush all the time or brush never. But it will take awhile to build up the proper probiotics if you quit, eat alotta cheese, especially before bed, American cheese does not work right, cheddar swiss, look it up yourself to find best kinds.

It is not normal, I am also agree that if you doesn't see cavities, it doesn't mean they are not. Even denture Experts would also suggest that you have to brush your teeth daily, You must need to consult your dentists.

i never brush my teeth havent in ten years and i dont use ANY dental products. I have no cavities and my teeth are in a good condition. noticed the reinvention of toothbrushes? eg extra stuff on the back to brush your tongue or different length brushes and different toothpastes. its all a profit based industry. You dont need to brush your teeth at all, if you eat a lot of sugary foods its advisable to rinse your mouth out with water after drinking or eating them. But that is it. Brushing stops the recalcification of the teeth, which is a natural process to keep teeth healthy and strong, and it is also poisoning you with NaF or sodium fluoride. Also bad breath and dry mouth in the morning is caused by toothpaste. i have had numerous gfs when i didnt brush my teeth and my breath is better than theirs! wake up dumbasses. your being conned.

I have perfect teeth and I am 36 years old. I brush maybe every 3-4 days. Once I went and had a professional cleaning my teeth went from very nice to horrible- Its a scam. Not brushing will create good bacteria film and mine was taken away and now im screwed for life just because I had removed all the good bacteria that has been created over so many years. So if you only brush once a week you are doing yourself a favor. Do not take away good established bacteria like i did then you will have to brush 2 times a day because you now have no protection.- Its a crock- I have lived it. Once you strip away good bacteria- sugar has direct access to its victim. Your teeth

I thought the same thing until I had my teeth cleaned and dental xrays done.  You can't judge a package by its cover.  Sometimes there are inner cavities you aren't even aware of.  I don't necessarily believe in constant multi check-ups, but you should have them checked at least now and then.  Test results vary on the pros and cons of brushing.  Some argue too much brushing scratches the enamel on the teeth causing cavities.  some argue that not brushing causes cavities and periodontal gum disease.   In my case, I brushed regularly because I couldn't stand the thought of wearing dentures in my old age.  The doctor said he could tell I was a good brusher, but don't make the mistake of using hard bristle brushes as they will cause the gums to recede with time which expose the roots causing even more trouble and they can actually scratch the enamel as well.  My teeth looked perfect, but the xrays revealed hidden cavities within my teeth. I almost had to have a root canal due to neglecting my teeth.  So, start brushing and get a check up before your teeth fall out of your head.

You guys believe anything.  The dental association is a money making machine.  Teeth=genetics.  Plenty of people NEVER brush and there teeth are fine, while others brush regularly and have horrible teeth. Besides, fluoride is a potent poisen.

Your neglect of your teeth, and especially your gums, WILL come back to haunt you.  Don't get into this unhealthy habit so early in your life.  You are still young and that gives your teeth a bit of an advantage FOR THE TIME BEING.  But take it from someone who has spent upwards of $30,000 on dental care since the age of 16 (and I had GOOD dental hygiene at that!), you do NOT want to go down this road.  Neglect of your teeth and gums WILL cause problems.  Your teeth may LOOK white, but plaque buildup can be invisible and that you said you already have poor gums.  Gum diseases can actually cause the dislogding of your teeth down the road you know, and also can cause rancid breath problems (which is only compounded by poor brushing and flossing habits.) Just because you don't think you have bad breath doesn't mean you don't (halitosis sufferers cannot smell their own breath because they are desensitized to it, and people may feel very awkward about telling you.)

So if you were looking to come here for people to pat you on the back for your poor dental health habits, you came to the wrong place.  I guarantee you your teeth are not nearly as healthy and clean as you think they are, and you really should get started on healthy dental habits before it's too late.

I also have to wonder...WHY do you only brush once a week?  It's hardly the most complicated or time-consuming activity.  Even if you don't THINK you need to, it is a very refreshing, cleansing thing to do for yourself and for the people who are likely in the line of your breath.

do your gums bleed yet?  do you want to smile at  a girl and then her see puffy red bleeding gums? yikes gross!! you need to get to a dentist and have a checkup and a cleaning.  you need to learn to brush your teeth daily, twice at least, floss, shower daily, change your clothes and wear deodorant.  by 16 you should already have these habits and follow them without moms help.  im kinda surprised your mom doesnt make you brush more often, im sure she can smell your breath.

I also want to add that just because you can't SEE cavities doesn't mean that they aren't there.  Most cavities form between teeth from lack of flossing.

Any dentist will tell you that you NEED to brush preferably twice a day (morning and night) and after meals (though most people don't do that).  Your teeth may look clean and white, but the part that you are neglecting are your gums.  The health of your gums is so important!  So, when you say that your gums aren't the healthiest thing then I can assume that your teeth aren't either!

If you don't brush your teeth/gums regularly, you are allowing germs to breed in your mouth, which can cause many terrible things, like gingivitis or periodontitis.  Gingivitis is usually caused by bacterial plaque that accumulates in the spaces between the gums and the teeth and in calculus (tartar) that forms on the teeth. These accumulations may be tiny, even microscopic, but the bacteria in them produce foreign chemicals and toxins that cause inflammation of the gums around the teeth.  This can lead to bone loss in your mandible and even result in your teeth FALLING OUT.

You need to begin brushing your teeth EVERY NIGHT AND DAY and floss EVERY NIGHT AND DAY.  I knew a women who didn't brush her teeth just like you and by 30 she wore dentures.  Her teeth were absolutely disgusint before she had dentures and her breath was terrible.

I feel that if you don't take care of yourself it shows that you don't respect yourself either.  At 16 years old you have so much going for you-- take care of your mouth!  Gold teeth and 'grills' look absolutely terrible.  Yikes.
