tooth pain wont stop

I'm 39, I keep my teeth brushed and floss. I went to the dentist for extreme pain in my lower left teeth area. I thought maybe cavity or root canal. Dr said no its perio. I freaked because I take good care of my teeth. My girlfriend says my breath does not smell like perio and my gums are not red they are a nice healthy pink. Anyway, the pain in intolerable and I say do what you have to do. He does a deep perio scrape (not to the root) and sends me home. 2 days later I have same pain and additional because of the scraping. Apparently I needed the perio work done but thepain in still horrible and vicodin hurts really bad at first before it helps. WHAT CAN THIS BE PLEASE HELP. thank you

Did your dentist take an xray?  It's imperative that he did this.  Often, even though we take excellent care of our teeth we all seem to have places we miss when brushing, or "how" we brush may force food down below the gum line creating a pocket of bacteria, which then forms plaque.  I find it difficult to believe that you would have periodontal disease this bad and not be able to see red, swollen and bleeding bums that are pulling away from the teeth.  I would get a second opinion ASAP, I don't think your current dentist is on the right track with this.  Take care.
