Dead tooth?

Dead tooth? A baby head butted me on my front tooth. It hurt at first, went to the dentist and didn't see anything. He said to wait and see because it could be nerves dying. Is not a throbbing pain but a dull ache and it is not constant. Only on certain days. Not sensitive to cold or hot. Not painful enough that need pain killers but achy. Now the pain is suddenly gone after two weeks, is the tooth dead or healed ? If dead will it shows in the x ray?
