Usually a root canal is done in 2 or 3 appointments. The first appointment is normally the one which will eliminate the intense pain, as this is when the nerve is destroyed. Are you saying that your dentist is charging you $500 for the entire root canal treatment or that he's charging you that amount just for the first visit? If you have 3 small children, it's more important that you sort your problem out first and foremost so you can take proper care of them, therefore is it possible that you can delay your daughter having her braces until you sort your tooth out, or at least the first visit to get you out of this pain. The pain increases at night because your body's defences are at their lowest then. Why is your dentist not prescribing anything for the pain?
my dentist is asking for 500$ for everything my insurance is paying for the rest. I really do not know why my dentist is not prescribing anything for the pain. i went in yesterday to finish up my daughters fillings and i mentioned it to the secretary and she said that the dentist was not in and that she had mentiond that i had called in the day before but the dentist did not mention anything about my pain. they keep telling me that the only way that i will get rid of the pain is to take care of my tooth and i understand that but i just dont have the money at this time. i have an appointment this coming friday and i dont know what to do until then. I mean i thought that a dentist was supose to help you with any type of pain or situation with your teeth. i dont know if i have any rights as to getting anything for pain. i feel as though i am begging for somthing that i need. ahhhhh i am going crazy. what should i do.
I'm sure your dentist wil work out a payment plan if it is arranged ahead of time. Most do anyway. Get your tooth fixed. It's an infection and can move through your body if it gets bad enough.
Yeah I agree with JKT75. If your dentist is any sort of human being with an ounce of compassion, he will arrange for some sort of payment plan to be able to get you out of pain. If this was my dentist and I genuinely could not afford to pay at the moment, I know he would do the first stage of treatment just to get me out of pain, and then set up some sort of plan for me to pay him back. Have you been using this dentist for a while?
Your pain may be being caused by infection. If it is you need more than medication for pain you need treatment. I had an infected tooth that I was unaware of and the infection spread. It was very scary and painful.
There is something called Care Credit that can help with dental expenses. www.carecredit.com If you go to the website you can even calculate your payments before you apply. There are a couple of other options too, but I don't remember them. My dentist gave me the information.
