I don't know if it helps to know that this happened to me after an extraction and has been going on for months. Both my Dentist and Oral Surgeon have tried to minimize the symptoms and tell me I may have to get used to it and it may never go away. I am so angry and depressed I don't know what to do. I cannot talk properly, I have constant pain, and I have lost 25 pounds in 2 months as I cannot eat. I am going to see a neurologist and I am hoping he can help or refer me to a bigger expert. I realize I need to be my own advocate and no one else is going to help. I have done a lot of research online etc, but no answers! Hope you have better luck than I did!
Firstly, going back to your oral surgeon to have a post op exam and address your problem.
Secondly, systemic administration of corticosteroid and antibiotics may help reduce inflammation and infection.
Thirdly, Vitamin B1, B6, B12, folic acid, omega-3fatty acid are helpful for nerve healing.
Lastly, tricyclic antidepressant and anticonvulsant such as gabapentin may help resume nerve function, you may need to see an experienced neurologist or Orofacial pain specialist who is competent managing traumatic trigeminal neuropathy.
