wisdom teeth vs fat ear drum

wisdom teeth vs fat ear drum

my son is 18 1/2 he has had an ongoing problem with his left ear for a long time(5+ yrs) ever since he got swimmers ear. His ear would periodically drain a waxey bloody liquid mostly when the weather was hot. other than that he stated that it did not hurt and he could hear fine. last spring he also got an infection in his other ear and when we took him in the dr said that the L ear looked as if it had, had an on and off infection for a long time (finally mom was listened to). since then he has had a tube placed in his L ear and fluid has been removed three times. the attending dr says he has a "fat" ear drum and may need surgery. I have not gotten a clear reason why. can you explain it PLEASE?
He has all of his wisdom teeth, and has been told that they are healthy as he has a long jaw. I think they may be the cause. Is it possible?
He also has chronic sinusitis (inherited)
