We didn't diagnose him we are considering he already received a diagnosis since he's being prescribed medications. We just tried to give him more information about what could be an underlying problem.
When we talk about ADHD and depression we are only referring to the information given in the original post.
''I'm going to be perscribed Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Zyban) for ADHD and depression.''
Sorry if you we offended you,

Pot has been used to treat ADHD, so it's possible you won't feel the need to smoke once you're on the right meds. Then again, stimulating your appetite could be a good thing; when I went on Wellbutrin I didn't feel hungry for two weeks, and I've heard that's fairly common. Talk to your doctor, everything you tell them is confidential so you can't get in trouble. Regardless, i would suggest not smoking for the first few weeks on the new meds at least so you can get a sense of their effects and know whether they're working (ask your doctor how long until they take effect). After that you'll be in a better position to judge whether they still work with the mj. Don't skip doses, most drugs have a cumulative effect so they won't work right if you're not taking it regularly.
What's with y'all diagnosing this kid over the internet, based on this one short post? Even if you are qualified professionals, he didn't give nearly enough information to determine whether he has ADHD, depression or a substance abuse problem, or what the right treatment for him might be.
I agree, smoking pot everyday is self-medicating and may be creating or worsening your problems. You can't have it both ways.
There's also the possibility you don't actually have either depression or ADHD (which is way overdiagnosed), but you smoke pot every day. Every day. What do you call someone who drinks every day? An alcoholic. Pot's a recreational drug, not your daily ration of vegetables. Try stopping the pot and see if things don't start clearing up -- it really doesn't mix well with some people, and especially those on forums such as this one. As for the Wellbutrin, they probably recommended that one because it's a stimulating antidepressant, but my guess is you didn't tell them you're smoking pot every day.
It is not recommended to mix drugs like that especially since high doses of THC act as a depressant. Your depression problem could be related to cannabis use. As for the ADHD, they usually manage the symptoms with the use of stimulants but yeah in some case they do use antidepressant, especially when you mention you are depressed. Personally, I dont think at that at the age 17 medication is the solution to jump on right now especially with Wellbutrin. Of course some young people get a relief from ADHD from medication such as Ritalin and Dexedrine etc. I think you should plan a couple of session with a psychologist for the depression issue and treat ADHD as something entirely different. Try Omega-3 just for fun and see if it can help with ADHD before jumping on the stimulants.
