Could this be a symptom of depression?

Hello,
I have recently been asked by my mother-in-law to seek help for depression, as I have been struggling with self harm for over two years.
During this past month I've had a problem with keeping food down - about 5 minutes after eating I begin throwing up in my mouth, and it won't stop until I purposely make myself sick. If this doesn't happen I just feel very tired and ill. I have been told it is most likely stress, but this never used to happen to me.
As I am making an appointment to see a doctor soon, I would just like to know whether this problem is likely to be related to stress/depression, or something entirely different.

It sounds to me as if you are experiencing a severe case of stress, and yes this can lead to depression.
Let your doctor know the whole trueth, and don't hold back anything that you may feel awkward about telling him/her.
It also sounds as though you are pretty much aware of your problem, and just need to learn how to deal with it, and you seem to be on the right foot now, so it shouldn't be too hard to fix. (don't you think?)

Great advice you have received from mammo and i wouldn't wait to get an appointment and don't let the doctor tell you it's only stress and get checked. there are many tests you can do to see if everything is normal and you must ask the doctor to do such tests. First thing to do is a CBC.

Of course eating while stressed can cause this but eating extremely stressed all the time? I know stimulants like amphetamines can cause this so it would be good to know if you use any stimulants.

Best regards,
M4

Hi,
I'm happy you have decided to take that first step to getting better. Depression  has many facets, but only a professional can determine exactly what is going on. Your vomiting may have an underlying cause.  I don't know if you have ever purged your food, but I've read than when one does this for so long that when they eat, it becomes a natural reflex for the body to throw up. Stress and depression can cause you to feel tired, and just not well, but I think at this point I would want a thorugh physical examine as well as psychological.  You are fortunate to have such a caring mother-in-law.  Depression can manifest itself in many ways, and differently in each of us.  But this constant vomiting needs to be addressed immediately, your stomach acid is eating away the enamel on your teeth, eroding your esophagus and you can become dehydrated quickly.  I wouldn't wait on this.  Take care....
