Depression due to Adipex/Weight issues

I have been taking Adipex for three days and am experiencing mood swings.  At times the depression is bad and I am almost in tears.  However, if I don't take the Adipex and my weight approaches 145 (I am 5'4"), I also become very depressed, won't go out socially and have zero self esteem.  I am 47 years old and will never change how I feel about my weight needing to be at a number that I am happy with to feel good about myself.  It is what it is.

I guess my question is, do you think that since I am experiencing some pretty major depression about three times a day for 20 minutes, is it normal while on Adipex?  Is it anything to be concerned about?

I'm with remar.

There are many reasons why Adipex isn't a great choice for weight loss/control.  The biggest one for you is that you have a history of addiction.  People absolutely become addicted to Adipex and there are w/d symptoms associated with discontinuation.  There are also potential health risks, like remar mentioned, including possible cardiac issues.

I would strongly recommend rethinking the Adipex and finding a new plan for your weight loss, for the reasons mentioned above, and also, because it's very possibly causing the emotional/mood issues you're experiencing.  It affects the central nervous system, therefore it's not uncommon to experience emotional/mood side effects.

Best to you!

Yes, I do think it's something to be concerned about. This med is effecting your mood and that's not good. It can also be hard on the heart.
At your height you are no where near being overweight. I would recommend throwing the scale out. Don't take any chances with your health. It's not worth being on diet pills. The best thing you can do is eat healthy and exercise.
