Hey, been down this road before man. I'm 17 and i started being treated for depression when i was 10. i tried to kill myself at 9 years old, yeah pretty bad right. anyway i don't recall what i was on back then but it did'nt work, i was switched to Prozac.

Prozac worked for about 3 years, i just recently stopped taking it all together. my depression went nuts after that, i was thinking about death all the time, making comments on how people should die, my mother even caught me with my late stepdads 9mm pistol to my head.

she got me counselling after that but i could never talk to the counsellers, male or female. soon after i started cutting my wriste just to be doing it. but i got so bad off i desided to try counselling again, the local counselling center let me look at the files of over 20 diff people, i choose a guy named Matt, hes a pretty cool guy, he went down the same paths and everything, but i still had a hard time talking to him.

i told him i had a hard time talking to people about alot of things, personal things. he told me if there was ever anything on my mind that i could'nt talk about, to write it down. and when i was feeling down to do something that made me happy.

a few weeks after i was upset about breaking up with my girlfriend of 4 months, i started thinking death would be my way out, but then i thought about my family. i know my depression was hurting them, but it would hurt them that much more if i took my own life.

so i went to a dollar store, grabbed a note book, went home and started writing everything on my mind, before i knew it i had written 4 pages of a college ruled notebook. it actually felt good to get everything out, even if i was'nt saying it. after that one time i never stopped writting.

now i write daily, and i even right songs with what i'm feeling hidden the lyrics. i would write about daily things, what i had for lunch, what movies i watched for that day, just random stuff, along with feelings, thoughts, and things i would like to do and see, and also about girls and such.

after i started writting it only took acouple of months and i was perfectly fine, i even started talking to my counsler about personal things, including talks of sex and girls in general. he shared alot of great advice, both as a professional and as a friend.

the moral of what i'm saying is more than meds can help you out. try the writing thing even if you find a med that works for you. write in the notebooks until they are full, put the finished books in a box and just let them sit there. after a few months, maybe even years, take that box and read back on all those books and see how things have changed. you might be suprised.

as for other things,  if you like to fish, hike, golf, anything that puts a smile or your face. then try it out when your feeling down.

remember, it takes 42 muscles to frown, but only 4 to extend your middle finger, and tell depression that your doing it YOUR way.

Tell your doctor that it's not working. He/she will put you on something else. This might happen a few times until you find something else that works. Sometimes there's a lot of trial and error.

I have never heard of those drugs, but if your depression is still a big problem then that is a very good indicator that these two drugs are not right for you.
