is it ok to start out on 40mg of prozac instead of 20mg

For many AD's it is recommended to start out on half the dose and increase after a bit of time. I stand in agreement with Wolfie - check with the prescriber if you're in doubt.
These days I have a whole lot of trouble finding the right words for things. Language barrier. The reasons for starting on half the dose are a few - one is to slowly build up the body's acceptance for the substance.

Is that what the dr prescribed for you? You can always begin with a lower dose and work your way up but IMHO ask your dr. I began with half a pill, at the drs recommendation.
