GETTING OFF EFFEXOR

Hi. My name is Nicole. I've been on various depression meds for 4-5 years. I've used effexor for the last 2 and now I'm trying to get off of it. I'm hoping my sex drive will improve and might have kids in around a year. To the people who are taking it everyother day and feeling dizzy I'll tell you what my doctor said. Rather than taking it everyother day, take half dose for a month then a 1/4 dose for another month. I haven't been dizzy this time, and my moods aren't quite as yoyo like, I've been on the 1/4 does for a few days now and my biggest problem is irrability and general disinterest in people and activities. it doesn't help that I'm new to San Diego and don't know anyone. I babysit during the day so I really don't meet new people anywhere. The only person I have here is my husband, who's military. He's amazing, but I'm not always fair to him because when I get upset I don't have any control over my moods.  Even restraining myself I sometimes push him or act almost violent. I don't know what to do, but I don't want to be on these horrible meds anymore! Any ideas??

hi nicole, i was on effexor for 5 years and had to stop taking it because of heart palps and it made my blood pressure high. i think your dr. is doing the right thing with the tapering. i tapered also but still had problems with nausea, brain zaps and mood swings. don't worry this will pass, and you'll get your sex drive back! hang in there. if you get upset just know it's the withdrawal and it with pass soon. take care. remar

I took effexor and it seemed to be working ,then I found out it gave me extremely high blood pressure( only "symptom " I had were seeing blue "auras" around lights at night. My doc wanted me to wean off but I was so scared, I just stopped cold turkey! The withdrawls only lasted for about a week, but were pretty intense, but I'm still glad I toughed it out, glad to be away from those=)

I don't know what to do either? And i think if I don't take this ,what will I take? or take nothing and be miserable and make my family that way too? I hate it. sorry not be much help, i'm looking for help too. Good luck and take care
