How do I treat depression if I'm uninsured?

Hello,

I've been experiencing insomnia for about four months, mostly early morning awakenings. I've also experienced unexplained and widespread chronic pain for about a year. I've been told by people I look depressed although I can't say I actually "feel down" any more than usual.  (Is there such a thing as a hyper sensitivity to the physical symptoms of depression without experiencing much of the emotional? )
I would like to go to the doctor to see if someone can tell me if I'm depressed or not. And I would love to get a hold of some medication to help me sleep again. My only problem is that I'm uninsured and very poor and would like to expedite the process so I can spend a minimal amount of money and jump through a minimal number of hoops. Does any one have any ideas?

Thanks a million,

David

You could try something natural and relatively inexpensive for sleep such as melatonin.  You can even get it at wal'mart for a few bucks and it has very low side effects.  Proper sleep alone may help the depression.  Just a thought.  I also have no insurance and am low income, but yet does not quite meet parameters for state help, so I understand dealing with health problems without health insuarance or much money.  Do try to apply for medicaid though.  It's a great help to many.  Hang in there.

You should be eligible for Medicaid and if you are working and above their income limit if your state has it then you might be eligible for the Medicaid Buy in for Working People with Disabilities. You might want to find out more about that.

Most states have sliding scale clinics for the uninsured.

the pain could be from a injury or illness. its common for depressed people to have body aches and pain.

Search the web for free medication programs..they are out there. Most run by USA government.
