I need a job so bad to pay for college.... and I applied to many places. There was only one place that wanted to get an interview from me, and that was Khol's. I was so excited, and it was a group interview, and surprisingly I was the only one out the 10 that dressed appropriately. I don't think I got the job, even though I thought I did great. Apparently I heard online that if your "application" wasn't filled out write at the end of the interview it meant that they wanted to tell you that you got the job, but not rub it in the other peoples faces... my name wasn't called. They told the group and I that they will call in one week to let us know.... I'm really upset and depressed, I doubt now that I even got this job. It would mean the world to be able to pay for things on my own, and for school things. I'm done applying for other jobs, I applied to too many that now I can't remember. What should I do? I'm really depressed...
Does your college offer work study jobs? Those are always a big help. Or maybe talk to someone in the financial aid department about a scholarship that you might be able to get or something. Don't give up, keep looking. Maybe even apply for a loan, just for the amount that you are going to school for, then find a part time job even if it is at a restaurant or hotel. Try online places such as snagajob.com or monster.com. Craigslist also has some job offers that are around the area. Don't stress out about it, I know school is hard to pay for as I am a college student myself.
Melmel, It's important not to give up looking for a job. I know your discouraged at the moment but you won't ever get one if you don't keep looking. Believe in yourself and just be persistent until you find one. Did you ever see the movie Pursuit of Happiness with Will Smith? I love this movie and if you can watch it, it just might help you. If you have seen it, think about the meaning of it. I just reminded my son about this movie just last week when he had applied for so many internships. You just can't ever give up. I don't know where you have applied but I do understand there have been many. Think about the skills you have, any previous experience. Think about applying for a job that you maybe said to yourself "I don't want to work there". You never know, you might end up liking it. Maybe you could find a babysitting job for the summer. Look up monster.com and I just learned about snagajob.com. Do you have any Temp Agencies there? As you know the job market is a bit challenging. It is not abnormal to apply to so many places. My own kids have been thru this. Your not alone. Be persistent, positive and confident. I know you you can do this.
I don't know if the fall will be your first time going to college or you have been attending. You may know some of the things I'm about to say but just in case... Did you fill out a Fasfa for college. This determines any free money you would receive (grants, scholarships) and student loans, subsidized and unsubsidized. I know you live with your grandmother but I don't know if she is your legal guardian. You will see on the paperwork you need to put down your legal guardian and their income. The lower the income, the more that is applied to help you. That's what I remember with my kids. The process of the FASA form is not complicated and you can ask for help if you need to. It's very possible thru this process to go to college not needing any money. Food, room and board, books and classes would be covered. Oftentimes, depending on your financial situation (from the FASA form) you can qualify for the work study program. The program entitles you to a job on campus, not too many hours because they want you to study, but it puts money in your pocket. If you get approved for the work study you need to line a job on campus ASAP. That way you have a choice of the jobs available. If you wait you will have a smaller choice and one that might not be as appealing.
I hope this helps. If you need any help with this college stuff let me know. I will be glad to help you. Keep in touch and let's us know how things work out. Fondly, Crystal
