I have been to the doctors and she has given me citlopram. I took the first yesterday and needless to say I wont be taking anymore.

I dont want to go down the medication route and taking the tablet yesterday confirms that. From thinking over it I do think this time if the year with the dark nights doesnt help.

I think I need a break from work so I am going to work from home for a few days to have a break from the office.

Dear Pleasehelpme,
You have been given some very good advice as to where you should start, and that should take you to the right professionals that will be able to determine what it is you are suffering from.
I have always found it humorus that we seperate physical ailments from mental ones, but when you really look deep into the mental problems we all may be having, they are all still a physical maladay. It's just that the physical problem that cause depression, or bi-polarism, or even schizophrania all take place in the brain.
So before we jump the gun, and get ourselves all worked up about having some serious mental problem, we should first have a complete, and comprehensive physical. And just as what mamo, and foreverlostmom pointed out there may be a more simple reason for your problems that are more easily dealt with, and can be resolved in a relativly short time with simpler medications.
I would suggest you take their advice first before you go to see a shrink.

Medication is the tretament for thyroid disorders. But see an Endocrinologist for this, not your GP.

another problem I have had which I forgot to mention was a sore tongue. the middle of it was really sore like the top layer of skin had come off.

What are the treatments for thyroid problems ?

Also there are thyroid problems that switch from one end to the other called Hashmitos so if it is coming and going this could be a possibility ask for antibody testing also.

I would suggest get your thyroid checked it can cause alot of your symptoms including depression and is very commen.  Go to the thyroid forum here and you will get much needed information and support.

Ask your doctor to perform FREE T3 and FREE T4 in addition to the standard TSH testing.  It may take only fixing your thyroid if it is a problem to start feeling better.
