I know I'm Depressed.

okay so im only 13 years old and i know it proabably seems stupid that i would think im depressed, but i think i am because of these questions

Do you feel sad or irratable?

i said yes.

Have you lost interest in activities once enjoyed?

i said no.

Have you experienced changes in weight or appetite?

i said no.

Have you experienced changes in sleeping pattern?

i said yes.

Do you have feelings of guilt?

i said yes.

Are you unable to concentrate, remember things, or make decisions?

That's a Definate YES!

Have you experienced fatigue or loss of energy?

i said Yes.

Have you experienced restlessness or decreased activity noticed by others?

i said no.

Do you feel hopeless, or worthless?

That's a Definate YES!

Have you had thoughts of suicide or death?

Like Every Day.

And then the test said...

You answered 7 items out of 10 "Yes". According to The National Mental Health Association, 5 or more yes answers indicates that you may be suffering from clinical depression. This test cannot substitute for a visit to a mental health professional. It is meant only to give you an idea where to start a dialogue with your healthcare provider.

But i told my mom that i need help and she doesnt think theres anything wrong with me. But i know theres something wrong with me. I dont wanna be Depressed, i just wanna be normal. I dont know what to do.

It does not seem stupid at all. Looking back on my life, I realized I have been dealing with depression in some form since I was quite young. My family also told me nothing was wrong. If you are concerned, talk to your school counselor or nurse or to a teacher. Keep in mind that just because you answered yes to those questions does not 100% mean you have depression, but it is worth talking to someone about it if you have concerns. The fact that you took the quiz leads me to believe that you were worried for one reason or another. Best wishes!

The fact that you took interest in such a survey means that you were curious to begin with and that means that you should really talk to someone.  However talking to someone isn't always as easy as it is suggested.  Based on your survey questions I can tell that you are going through a lot of stress which may or may not be or lead to depression.  There are several other things that these answers could be related to and that is why you should try and get further evaluation.  If you have not been able to talk to your mom then try looking into some legitimate sites on line or even hot lines that are geared toward youth help.  There are several out there and sometimes the anonymity helps you be more forthcoming with your situation.  If you choose to go this route though make sure that you research ANY site you go to before entering any kind of conversation with people.  I have tried enotalone.com and that has been very safe.  there are more but above all you should try speaking to your mom again and tell her that you want to seek some kind of professional to talk to and see if there is more to this.  I wish you the best and hope that you get some form of assistance.

Do you have access to a school psychologist?  If so, talk to him or her about it and show him or her the test you were just talking about.  If not, see if you can see the school nurse.  Reach out to a professional at school.

I remember when I was about 12, I started having concentration problems, along with a few other issues, including feeling sad, isolating myself.  Lots of headaches too.

I had some issues when I was a senior in high school.  I was very depressed and wanted to kill myself.  This came out in my creative writing class.  I really believe the teacher saved my life.  He got me hooked up with the school psychologist.

This is a tough one, simply because your so young. That is not to say that Magor depression can not strike at a very young age because I know it can. I was only 12 when I had my first panic attack. Many years later this manifested itself into a full blown major depreesive dissorder.

You mentioned that you still enjoy **** things you like to have fun with. This is a good sign and is an indication that your condition is not at the far end of severe.

Unfortunatly at your age I would not advise any Psychotropic medications. For reasons not fully understood, they do more harm than good for people under 19 years of age that are not in the throws of a true mental depression.

What I would advise you to do is to seek out a counsoler. Even at school if you can and explain these symptoms that your having.

It is not easy when you are suffering symptoms of depression at such a young age. Mostly because you can not seek out a professional Pscycologist to help you without parental help.

Keep trying to urge your parents to allow you to see a profssional Psycologist.
