My Dr told me Parnate was a stimulant and that it causing tiredness was rare. Well, I rarely get side effects from anything and Parnate drops my blood pressure so makes me tired to the point I can't take it before I drive a distance more than 20 mins or so away. I'm not a coffee drinker so I've unfortunately had to start taking No Doz at work to counteract it, which *****. I cut the no doz in half so only have about 50mg at a time but, depending on the day and other factors, I end up having between 100-200mg caffeine/work day now. I'm on 40mg Parnate and have had to spread the 4 pills out throughout the day to try to help curb the tiredness.
I know this is an old thread, but I'm hoping other Parnate users are out there as I'd love to connect. All other forums discussing it are also year's old. :(
Thanks. :)
I'm afraid that Parnate isn't a stimulant, and often causes tiredness too. But that doesn't mean that it will for you, even though Nardil does. They are different drugs and so you will probably react to them differently. You may well be very very tired on Parnate for a couple of weeks and then be fine. Same for Nardil, if you've only just started taking it or changed the dose.
I don't think there's any stimulant doctors like to add to Nardil for long-term use. And I'm sure they'd like to try you on similar drugs to see what they'll do before they start thinking of adding something to Nardil. But try talking to your doctor/psychiatrist about it, and press them to give you all the information about possible side-effects etc. They're required to tell you that by law, even if they can be reluctant to do so.
