Mental Pictures...

Just saw my good friend unconcious. One moment she is in my arms and the next moment she is on the bathroom floor alongside my other friend and blocked by the principal telling me to move away. How do you get the mental pictures out of your head? The pictures of an injured and badly bleeding friend on a stretcher.

I only saw her asleep for a matter of seconds and I haven't heard from her since. Help. :'(

I'm so sorry that you had to witness this. I find that the best way to block out mental images, is to switch your focus. Try to occupy your mind with an interesting thought that will keep your attention away from that thought, or read a book, or watch a movie. If those things don't work, as soon as the mental picture is in your head, literally just force your mind to go numb and not think of anything. That works for me that best, and then once the image is completely gone, I quickly move onto a different thought. The image is still usually in the background of my other thoughts, but the harder and harder I try, it makes the image disappear. I also read somewhere, that sometimes just letting the thought/image happen and not getting anxiety about it, or worrying about it, will help for it to go away quicker. The image will soon become more and more irrelevant because your mind will be relaxed, and will not focus in so much on that image. I have also tried this and it works. I hope one of these things can help you =).

This is very normal when it comes to trauma. I kno I had this problem when I faced trauma for at least a couple of months afterwards. It should start to go away eventually or become subconscious. Once it does that you are on the tail end of dealing with it because your subconscious does not deal with emotions.
