Unsure of Zoloft taper schedule given by pdoc

I have been taking the generic of Zoloft since December 10, 2015. I gradually increased from 12.5 mg to 75 mg. It has not helped my depression. Today I called my pdoc and asked for a taper schedule. I was told to take 50 mg. for two days and then come off it completely.
That sounds very quick and I'm concerned about withdrawal symptoms. I've never been on an SSRI before and never discontinued one. I could use some advice. I'm willing to slow the taper on my own if that would be more comfortable.
If I'm just being too cautious feel free to tell me. I have been having anxiety issues as well as severe depression since September. We've yet to find a medication that helps. I can endure some discomfort but don't want to be unnecessarily ill trying to get off this medication.

My guess is your psychiatrist thinks this is okay because you've only been on the drug for a short time.  It's also often true that when a drug doesn't work, it means you didn't metabolize it very well, and that means it's easier to stop taking it.  But, I'd still taper off at least as slowly as you tapered up, just to be safe, and if withdrawal sets in as you do this, then you need to taper off more slowly.  People have wildly different reactions to stopping these meds, but it's just safer to be cautious.  I'd have a talk with your psychiatrist, because if he seems not to be careful with this or is non-responsive to your concerns, he's probably not a very good psychiatrist to have if you plan to continue with the medication route.

Thank you for your input. I will definitely devise a taper plan. I considered trying his but don't want to risk withdrawal when I am already miserably depressed.
This has been my pdoc for over 20 years (off and on). I've been off medication for many years until this recent episode. I was taken back by his plan and am unsure he's engaged at this point.    I really don't want to try any more medication trials as it has been one failure after another so far.
