anti-depressants

I am severely allergic to SSRI's.  I really don't want to take an MAO Inhibitor because of the dietary restrictions.  I need to be on a mild dose of anti-depressant.  Are there any other anti-depressants available, something that won't make me physically ill?

You might want to ask your doc about remeron. The lowest dosage might be just what you need. Good luck!

Have you tried tricyclics?  Or Trazadone?  SNRI's?

This is a list of the different classes of anti-depressants and their side effect profile. I believe from what was clinically noted the Ensam patch application which is a MAO inhibitor does not have dietary restrictions given how it enters the blood stream. There is definitely research into newer and safer treatment modalities as regards depression all the time. However, as each person responds differently to different medications and experiences certain side effects more than others based on a history of reactions to specific anti-depressants you could discuss this information with your psychiatrist and see what medication would be right for you.
