Hi!  I am new on this site...I read your question and I have been on these meds for years...and yes...I have gained weight.  However, I was at a point that I would try anything for my depression.  I believe that, for me, I have to take these meds or I would be worse than what I am now. I take 50 mg.-one in morning, 50 mg.-one at noon, and 400 mg. at night before bed. I have been on 2- 60 mg. a day cymbalta for years.  My new doctor has put me on Pristiq because I STILL deal with deep depression: crying, insomnia, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, heart disease, just found out I definitely have liver disease...on and on it goes.  I would be sure that I have a physician that you can truly speak with and that can SEE the symptoms when you are in the room with him/her. My new family dr. can see what I go through and this makes me trust him more.  I am praying for you and do what your dr. recommends!!  Talk soon!

So the seroquel is to help with depression, no bipolar or anything? I think if you are concerned about your weight ( which I totally understand cos I am) I would ask for a different one, you seem very depressed at the moment and there isn't going to be much chance of you exercising when depressed so gaining weight will just make you feel worse. You need to feel better mentally before you can get to the point where you don't feel as anxious about your weight.
Big hugs, get better soon x

I'm on seroquel, ive been taking it for 10years. I have put on some weight but it has made me feel so much better that any weight gain is worth worrying about. Seroquel has turned my life around- i'm a different person to before i started it. Ive only put on a small amount of weight but with combined exercise weight gain is minimal. Trust me these tablets are totally worth taking. I cant speak highly enough of them! Just take a little more care with what you eat and perhaps do a little more exercise but there worth it in the long run. Ask yourself would you rather stay the size you are and be unwell or perhaps gain a few pounds and feel "normal" and happy again?!

Hello what is your diagnosis if you don't mind me asking? I am on Seroquel XR 300mg aswell as Depakote for Bipolar Disorder. I do know that seroquel is used for depression also.
Before I was diagnosed they said I had major depressive disorder with pyschotic features and was given Bipolar type meds.. I wonder if this is the case for you..just wondering?

After the initial extreme tiredness I was quite grateful for the sleep as I had been manic for so long, I had a bit of a fall aswell but I thought Seroquel was pretty good and I've tried many!
As for the weight gain, I agree that it is moderate. I didn't notice a lot of weight gain for the first 6 months which is good, if your wanting to see how you go.. it is nowhere near as bad as other antipyschotics, such as zyprexa.
A lot of people don't give the meds enough chance to see how they work because the side effects are overwhelming but do persist as you might find them good after a few weeks.
If not, go straight back to the doctor and explain the side effects are too much and could try something else or change the dose.
Good luck hun.

I had moderate weight gain on 300mg and blood pressure increase. but if you are seen by your doctor as them to keep an eye on it. depending what you are on it for and your dosage depends on how likely you are to get side effects ( lower the dose less likely to get serious side effects but not always)

I just started taking Seroquel XR 150 m.g. 1 week ago, and I saw all the side effects and was leary also, but since I have  been on it I have only had some side effects, tired during the day, and overly thirsty, and my sinuses being dry, and that is about it. I have only been on it a week like I said but it's worth giving it a try
