In the past I had good results for severe depression and anxiety with prozac.  I have just started back on it after being on Lexapro for 3years (it pooped out) and effexor for 3 months (didn't work and raised BP).  I am hoping it works as well this time as it did before.

I have just stopped taking 80 mg prozac after about 6 mos. I liked the prozac because it made me so happy and carefree. But it just did not stop my  jitters from anxiety. So I stopped prozac one day and began Cymbalta the next (30mg for the first week and then 60 mg for the past 31/2 wks. I do have less anxiety now with the Cymbalta but I also have lost that jovial attitude that I was begininning to enjoy with the prozac.

I have taken 10-20mg Prozac for 10 yrs now, off and on. It helped a great deal with depression and panic attacks, but not so much with the generalized anxiety or agoraphobia. It also put alot of weight on me. But helped me sleep better at night too. Also helped with PMS, but oddly messed up my cycles. Overall, it was a good drug.

I to have been on the drug merry go round. Ask yourself if a cure were available it should already have been found. I believe my long term use of prozac and other antidepressants  has made my anxiety and depression more chronic and untreatable. Look up tardive dysphoria.
For me prozac did nothing for my GAD maybe helped my depression though i can not rule out the placebo effect. The cost of dependence and other common side effects far out weighed any benefit of feeling calmer due mainly to somnolence.
I would give it a 3/10 overall more than i would have given to effexor, cipramil.
Actually now that i think about it all my antidepressants were average. Well the science is not definitive on there efficacy so it is hardly surprising. I always felt better upon getting a new super drug but that placebo effect always wore off in a month or so.
