i love the west australian mental health system - you have two choices - get committed to a government hospital mental health ward or be extremely rich and have immediate mental health care , or have private health cover for log enough to be subsidized to for help within a reasonable amount of time. It is an incredible example of the middle class  limbo that many have to work with.

Have you tried the triage unit at Alma St, in Freo? It's open 8am-8pm, so if you are in serious struggle town give them a call, or just turn up. I was there recently and have a little kernel of hope starting to grow inside!

A few years ago I ended up being referred to Alma St. After a few months on the waiting list, I got a letter saying demand was high-it'd be another six months, so contact them if I wanted to remain on the waiting list. Seriously! I felt so deflated; I didn't contact them. I remember sobbing and repeating "there's no help out there" over and over.

Fast forward, last week I had a "freak out" which resulted in my family taking me to the triage unit at Alma St. It was the public holiday, but I was still able to see someone that day. I spoke with someone for over an hour, who then liaised with a dr. The dr then saw me, then my family to explain the next steps. I went home, and they called the next day to check up on me. And today, I got a letter with appt details (it's in a few weeks).

I'm actually feeling optimistic; I mean, I had an episode just last week. Usually I'd still be in bed, but I was able to go back to work today-and I'm even up to browsing the net in my free time!

Honestly, if you need help, you should go. There is help out there!

Hi there.  I don't understand your question.  Are you suffering from depression and finding it difficult to get support on the Australian health system.  You do not make it clear what support you need.  Are you being sarcastic???
