''None of these meds does the same thing to all people.'' as Paxiled mentioned is the statement you must remember.
Using amphetamines is not something I would suggest to anyone who is looking for a long-term solution.
See, amphetamines are widely abused and have devastating side effects. The only ''good' thing you will get out of any amphetamines let it be dextro or levo-amphetamines is a sudden boost in dopamine and a extremely stimulating effect which will eventually make you eat less which can act on you mood in a bad way too. Unless you want to be hooked on on amphetamines for the rest of your life.
Personally, I used amphetamines as a party drug and what not in the past. I don't recommend the use of Dexedrine or any kind of amphetamine to be added to your dailies. There are many safer option like Modafinil that could give you the extra you need.
Anyway the question here is how you can avoid depression and I don't think the answer is waiting into some kind of drug. You mentioned that you are using Xanax, which is by the way, a very sedative drug which will knock down any stimulating effect you might look for from any drug you might be taking. Prozac is not a stimulant at all and will only affect you serotonin reuptake inhibition. See, serotonin, in contrary to dopamine (triggered by amphetamines) is most likely to knock you down as will do any serotonin acting drug. A brief example here would be that once serotonin is used it is converted into melatonin which is a sleep hormone. Now you know why they mixed norepinephrine and serotonin to make the so called SNRIs. Norepinephrine by the way is a byproduct of dopamine.
I don't want to induce any nocebo effect on you there but I just think you need to know the truth and that's all. If your doctor is telling you Prozac is gonna stimulate you well it might just do so because of a placebo effect which is the the opposite of a nocebo effect.
Bottom line is I suggest you go for Modafinil or even Rhodiola rosea before climbing to the amphetamines.
Remember that the goal is to be drug free too... What would happen if you were put into a plane crash and lived into the jungle without meds? Meds, tools they are.
Just my thoughts,

None of these meds does the same thing to all people. Everyone is affected differently. Prozac is certainly not the most stimulating antidepressant; there are several that are much more stimulating, including the snris and wellbutrin. Amphetamines? They still use those? I'd be careful with that. But you're not looking for being energized, you're looking to be less depressed -- not the same thing.
