Hi Elly, and welcome to the forum,
You will find that talking to your doctor is a lot easier than you think it's going to be.
Nothing that you say to a doctor will will make him/her think that you are complaining, looking for sympathy or any other negative emotions.
Often it is much easier talking to a stranger, as they don't have preconceived ideas about us and shouldn't be judgemental.
Your doctor will be very used to talking to people with depression and will want to help.
As mammo said, you don't need to open up too much at first. The doctor will ask the relevent questions he/she needs to, in order to best help you.
Just be honest and be yourself. It really wont be such an ordeal as you think and you'll feel much better for it afterwards.
Thinking of you.
I would write down all you're feeling, and be totally honest and take it to your doctor. Just tell him you haven't been feeling well and here are my symptoms. He will take it from there, and will probably ask you some questions. It's best to see a psychiatrist as they are most knowlegeable with this and they deal with people like us every day all day long. So, know you can feel comfortable in talking with him. I was like you at one time, but learned that it's okay and sometimes needed to express to someone else our problems. These doctors spent many years in med school to be able to help us, now we have to let them do their job.You can do this, and must. Depression can rob us of so much, so please address this so you can live a happy life. I wish you all the best, and take care.
