Hi there, im Natalie and im 19.  Ive had depression for a few years now, it wasnt diagnosed right away and it is now the belief of the doctor that it did start when I was around 12.  So, in a way I know how you feel.

Can you talk to your parents about your feelings and whats going on???  If not, Joanne is right, write everything down - all your feelings and everything that is going around your head.  Have you talked to the doctor?  Something I found useful, once you write down whatever is on your mind rip it up and throw it away.  It may sound strange but it helped me, it was like I was physically getting all my problems and getting rid of them.  Try it.

If you want to talk Im here and I'll listen to whatever you have to say.  Take care.

Hi, I'm Jude and I am 57.  I have suffered from depression my whole life.  Depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain chemicals and nothing to be ashamed of...it't kind of like being a diabetic and having sugar imbalance...just something that happens in your body.  Depression, like diabetes, can be controlled with medication to help get the correct balance of chemicals and hormones back in line.  Often times, depression, like diabetes, runs in families, sometimes not.  Finding the correct dosage and combination of antidepressants can sometimes be like insulin for a diabetic...trail and error until the correct mixture has been found for your body.  But before the depression, just like diabetes, can be controlled, you have to tell someone what is going on in your body.  If you have been depressed for 2 wks. or longer, this is not just a "blue and cloudy day" and you need to seek medical help to overcome this.  The reason I keep referring to depression being similar to diabetes is because depression is no different...it is an illness due to chemicals in your body getting out of wack...so please, tell someone be it your parents, your doctor or your school nurse of what is going on so that you can get the medical care you need.  Depression is nothing to be scared or ashamed of...it's just an imbalance.
