Hi I have been diagnosed with trich and doctor precribe me metronidazole 500 nge 4 pills to take one time. I haven't have sexual intercouse ever since I went to the doctor . Symptoms come back after a week and went back there and did lab test again and positive trich again . So this time the doctor prescribe me clydamycine to take 2 times a day for 7 days . My concern is I heard clydamycin is for bacteria vaginosis and I was wondering if it will not work again . Today is the first day I took the pills . Anyone ever take clyndamicine for trich?? Please help

Clydamycin is an antibiotic, which should address trich, even though it's more commonly given for other infections- sounds like since the metronidazole didn't clear things up, they are just trying a different antibiotic.
thanks . When I google it says clydamycin is not used to treat trichominosis and am like why is the dr then prescribe me now .

Hi,

This could be bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis. I think you should get your
investigations repeated once to be sure.

Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal odor and discharge. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina. In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present.

Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic
examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by metronidazole ((Flagyl,
MetroGel) and clindamycin (Cleocin). They are available as pills or vaginal gels
or creams.

The characteristic symptom of trichomoniasis infection is a heavy,
frothy, yellow-green, fishy-smelling discharge from the vagina. It is diagnosed
by pelvic examination, swabs of the discharge and their culture sensitivity.
Treatment is by metronidazole (oral and pessaries).

You should consult a gynecologist and get a pelvic examination and cervical swab done to confirm a diagnosis.

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.
