Anal Irritation

Hi.  This topic seems popular...I was diagnosed with divericular disease some years ago which offers some minor daily difficulties from time to time.  I have also been a bit susceptible to haemorrhoids off and on but not overly so.  A couple or three years ago I started having a few odd sensations around my anus like mild pins and needles. Some time later I noticed that I was experiencing a small amount of clear discharge, especially after a motion.  This could be quite pungent.  I recently had a Sigmoidoscopy (sorry about the spelling) which found no horrors but confirmed DD and I had a couple of haemorrhoids banded. I also have a small lump to the front of my anus which sometimes is less  than at other times!!   Dilemma is:  Is this itchy discharge likely to be the piles or can it be attributed to the diverticular issue?  What is the best way to loose this sensation which is doing my head in?

Thank you for your reply.  Would such a haemorrhoidal condition also cause dampness around the anus which I feel obliged to regularly wipe to stay comfortable.  Preparation H seems to relieve symptoms (Witch hazel, etc) but I should like to 'get it sorted out once and for all' so that I can get on with life and work.  I will take your advice and arrange a visit to my doctor first of all.  By the way, these sensations became evident following a change in my work pattern...my present job involves being on my feet for a good part of the day.  Thanks again

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
This burning sensation around the anus is due to the hemorrhoids. Symptoms of external hemorrhoids may include burning sensation and a painful swelling or a hard lump around the anus which may itch. Treatment includes sclerotherapy, rubber band ligation, cryosurgery or Stapled Hemorrhoidectomy. Please consult a surgeon and get it evaluated.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
