My entire life I have been suffering from what doctors told me was eczema but after extensive research I still don't think that is the correct diagnosis. I have severe dry skin over my entire body. Worst ares are the crook of my arm, my face and legs. Its usually bearable since I have been using St. Ives 24 hour moisturizer but its not working anymore. Its so bad that when my skin gets dry enough it will crack and bleed and flake off my body. This has been very hard to live with since its on my face and I would give anything in the world to see it gone for good. I cannot afford to see a dermatologist so any help you can provide would be helpful. I'm 19 years old and when I was young they told me the condition would clear up by the time I was 16. That time came and went and it is still just as bad. Sun exposure does make it worse but is not the cause. When it firsts starts out my skin feels leathery and has a reddish tint underneath. Throughout the day it becomes progressively worse no matter how much lotion I use. Anything with alcohol in it burns no matter the severity at the time. I have found that putting my face under running water and scrubbing off the excess skin is the only thing that makes it go away but it always comes back. I'm to the point where I don't even like to go out into public. On my arms the dry areas usually stay white with minimal flaking but itch very badly causing small bumps which I assume are from the scratching. Any advice besides going to see yet another dermatologist would be helpful.

hi, I have a red round spot. (not sure really what it is) It looks kinda dry and itches a lot. Nothing really helps the itching. I am using hydrocorisone plus. I have one on both my legs, another one starting  on my thigh area, and one on my arm. Does anyone have any idea about this problem? Thanks

I have a bright red/purplish rash mostly on my knees, elbows, neck, feet and hands. When I get cold, the rash on my feet and knuckles turn purplish/blue. I tested negative for ANA and the only abnormal count on my CBC is MCV - 105.5 and MCH 38.7. My Vit D was low at 11.  My biopsy was negative, a pap smear was negative and my mammogram was negative. My CT did show moderate centrilobular emphysema ( I am a smoker). My dermatologist does not feel that the emphysema is causing the rash.

Any ideas.

Here is what is currently going on with my lip. I have a growth on my bottom right lip. I keep picking at it when it gets extremely hard. When i take the scab off its grows bigger and it bleeds alot for a long time. I had this bump or growth which it appears to be for a month now. My doctor gave me some pills to cure it but it did not work because he thought it was a cold sore. No puss or discharge comes from it just blood when i pick at it. I do not know what to do.

Hi

A 29yrs guy has approached my sis for marriage proposal. She liked him very much but in his first meeting he told her that he has "LEUKODERMA" VITILIGO on inner side of left arm. I want to ask that

- whether it can spread to his entire body in future ? Are there any specific types of  vitiligo ?

- Are there any chances that this disease can be stopped  to his arm only ?

- To treat this disease does the period matter that when it appeared first   ?

- is there  any cure in allopathy, homeopathy or ayurvedic that reduces its extent or white patches ? and if it gets cured will there be any chance of its recurrence.....

pls reply as she doesnt wan't to say no to him ..but at the same time she is also worried that what if it get transfer to further generation .

about 2 months ago mainly front trunk papular rash started slowly showing up
(- please see the situation now:
http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/8963/p1010266n.jpg)

that spread further and to forearms last month, maybe by autoinoculation with
palms(which stayed OK)
However as I remember it did not start at waist area but with a kind of a burning
sensation and a ring made of papulas(bumps) above armpit
(please see http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/7295/0905101919.jpg)

Dermatologist said Lichen planus but neglected
almost no itch, clean legs&mouth and
the fact I had a beta hemolitic streptococcus skin infection; also
fresh papulas are flesh colored/later flatten out and get violet&red, and here and there you can notice smaller 'rings' made up of papulas (like the one at mid-left side of first pic)
Anyway I consider starting with oral erythromycin instead of prescribed oral glucocorticosteroid+gentamicin cream so I would like a second opinion possibly from:

guttate psoriais(as complication of maybe still existing
group-b-beta-hemolytic-streptococcus that was present),
Generalised granuloma annulare(but as previous it should not spread with autoinoculation,if it did take place)

and less likely
(Tinea corporis-unlikely because there are only few 'rings' and the edge is not sharp),
(Pityriasis rosea-guess not, although first manifestation looked could be considered 'herald patch',probably not- there are mostly bumps and not patches/macule),
(Candida ruled out-there is no sharp
border, no central clearing and no
satellite lesions),
(molluscum contagiosum unlikely because spots are tiny and not dimpled in the middle),(herpes no-no blisters),
('norwegian' scabies-should itch not only when new bumps are about to show up),

Ok, I guess I'll just do what everyone else did and repost my question here:

I have non-healing  round and oval shaped lesions/ulcerations on my neck for almost a year now.  A couple of them went away, but then new ones appeared; the tissue feels lumpy underneath.  They get covered by scabs, but do not heal.   Antibiotics and topical clindamycin seemed to help a little, but not much improvement had been observed.  When a skin sample was attempted to be cultured, no single specific bacteria was found. What can it be?? Please help!

Hello,

Last week I started noticing that I was itchy.  My back and stomach (stomach mostly), along with my sides developed skin-colored and red itchy bumps.  I went to see a dermatologist and he didn't this it was Scabies, but treated me for it anyways.  The permetherin, along with other steroid cream, helped the itching.  I still have some bumps on my stomach and back but the itchy got a lot better.  A few days later the rash started on my thighs, and arms.  The bumps would appear randomly and disappear in a day or two.  I have never had anything like this before.  My husband and two kids are fine and other than this, I feel great.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Hello.
I have a concern, I am a teenager and have only had sex with one female partner (who I am positive was a virgin before me). The last time I had sex with her was almost 2 months ago. Anyway, about 3 days ago I changed soaps, and immediately after that my penis became very itchy. After about a day raised bumps began to sprout at the base of my penis, and are traveling towards the head. They are very itchy and sensitive, and I want to make sure it isn't an STD. I have been putting lamasil on it, but what should I do?

Hey doc,
I've had white spots on my face for a few years now. They get "worse" when I tan because the spots do not tan along with the rest of my face so they become more noticeable. They are not bumps and feels like the rest of the skin on my face except it seems to be more dry. What do I do to cure this? Please help!!

My dad who is a pediatrician has suggested that they may be caused by formerly having exema in those spots.

I have what my doctor called "Contact dermatitis" in the Vaginal area, and she didn't exactly state what all could help it go away. It's not Itchy, just sore. For the past few months I've been using OTC Vagisil, but it doesn't seem to be working. No I have not had sex, but I have masturbated lot within the past year. Is there something else I could put on it?

Some of the "Ask a Doctor" Forums doesn't have a post question link at the top. The dermatology section doesn't. Is there any way a forum moderator can fix this? It isn't a problem on the posters end, as it seems it affects more than one person. Some forums do have the link to post, but some dont. Any help?

it sounds like you have an allergy of some kind. You need to take an antifungal for the scalp fungus, and continue with mild soaps for the dandruff.
